CHARACTER GUIDE

Nails Van Landingham
CHIEF HUNTING OFFICER, TREASUREFIX
- Favorite food is sandwiches
- Favorite movie is The Goonies
- Favorite U.S. President is George Washington
Biographical Information
In many ways, the details of Nails’ early life and upbringing are as much a mystery as the treasures he once sought, and now hides. Raised somewhere in the western hemisphere in a remote village that clung to the edge of forgotten history, Nails always found himself more at home in ancient ruins than bustling streets. From an early age, his world was one of myths and wonder, where bedtime stories whispered to him by village elders were secretive tales of lost artifacts and buried fortunes.
Nails was informally educated by eccentric historians, wandering cartographers, and elusive treasure hunters who often vanished as quickly as they appeared. A scholarship from a mysterious benefactor saw him briefly at a prestigious American university, where he was often found in the dark corners of libraries, sifting through dust-laden tomes that most deemed fictional. It was here where he first met his friend-turned-archnemesis, the brilliant (and insane) Arthur Mordecai.
Nails’ descent into the world of treasure hunting was no more a choice to him than breathing is to the rest of us. Legend speaks of a chance encounter deep in the catacombs of a forgotten city, where he unearthed an artifact that pulsed with ancient power. From that moment, his founding of TREASUREFIX was a natural evolution — a means to delve deeper into the hidden vaults and long-buried secrets of the world while simultaneously sharing his passion with others. Each treasure hunt is a puzzle in and of itself, but also a piece of a larger narrative — one that perhaps only Nails himself can decipher.
Outside the labyrinthine worlds of treasure hunting, Nails is a paradoxical figure. He can often be found weaving intricate baskets, kneading dough for homemade bread, gardening under the moonlight, or reading Marcus Aurelius by candlelight, with his small mixed-breed dog and best friend, Cipher, by his side. On the other hand, he is also a pop culture aficionado, particularly well-versed in the genres of American film, television, sports, and music.

Cipher
ASSISTANT to the cho, TREASUREFIX
- Favorite food is sandwiches
- Favorite movie is Air Bud: Golden Receiver
- Favorite U.S. President is Teddy Roosevelt
Biographical Information
Cipher, the ever-loyal companion of Nails since joining his side one day at an abandoned dig site somewhere in the eastern hemisphere, is an adventurer in his own right. A small but agile mixed-breed with keen instincts, Cipher has trotted beside Nails through dense jungles and ancient ruins alike.
With an uncanny ability to sense hidden passages and detect subtle changes in the air, Cipher has saved Nails from more than one precarious situation. Though often seen perched on his companion’s lap or curled up beside a flickering campfire, he is always alert, always watching.
Cipher is as much a seeker of treasure as any human, with a nose for adventure and a heart forever bound to the mysteries of the world.

Prof. Art Mordecai
CHIEF MAYHEM OFFICER, INSANITY INDUSTRIES
- Favorite food is bone marrow
- Favorite movie is The Silence of the Lambs
- Favorite U.S. President is none
Biographical Information
Professor Arthur (Art) Mordecai was once a name spoken with admiration in the halls of academia — a prodigy, a visionary, a mind unshackled by conventional thought. He and Nails were kindred spirits in their brief time together at university, bound by a mutual obsession with the hidden threads of history. Together, they unraveled cryptic riddles and pursued relics lost to time, two sides of the same coin.
But ambition is a treacherous compass, and where Nails sought truth, Mordecai craved power. Something changed deep within the catacombs of their final shared expedition. Some say Professor Mordecai gazed too long into an artifact not meant for mortal hands, others claim he simply saw the limitations of morality and chose to break free. Whatever the truth, when Nails emerged from the ruins, he did so alone — his friend now his greatest adversary.
Brilliant beyond measure, Professor Mordecai is a master of alchemical sciences, cryptographic systems, and technologies that teeter on the edge of the impossible. His laboratory at Insanity Industries, the company he founded and runs alone — a shadowed sanctum of glowing vials, arcane equations, and half-finished inventions — is both a temple to his genius and a monument to his madness. His coat, lined with intricate circuitry and symbols pulsing with esoteric energy, is a testament to the fusion of logic and mysticism that fuels his work.
No longer content with uncovering history, Mordecai now seeks to rewrite it. He manipulates treasure hunters, deciphers ancient weaponry, and bends lost knowledge to his will. To him, Nails is not just an obstacle, but an old friend clinging to an outdated sense of honor — one he is determined to dismantle.
